During the period April-June 2017, 14 training courses with over 400 youth leaders were held.They were focused on training and providing the necessary and adequate information (methodology directions), knowledge, skills and competences for work with young people with disabilities and special needs.
The project aims to increase the competencies of youth workers, trainers & leaders in their direct work with young people with disabilities. Creation of a meeting and debate space to exchange working methodologies and working tools dealing with the inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities.
Additional topics that were covered were: intercession and protection -youth leaders as mediators between young people with disabilities and the responsible institutions.
Additional aims and topics was:
- Equipping youth workers working directly with youth with fewer opportunities with specific skills and competencies on supporting youth social integration initiatives;
- Promoting cooperation between social workers, employers, youth workers and youth leaders to support the integration of young people with special needs and disabled people;
The training’s were divided into 2 phases:
- 3 days focused on training and providing the necessary and adequate information (methodological instructions), knowledge, skills and competencies to work with young people with disabilities and special needs;
- 3 days focused on training for local and state authorities, employers, other NGOs, media. Advocacy and protection – youth leaders as mediators between young people with disabilities and responsible institutions.
As a result of the trainings, a specially developed experimental methodology was developed for the work of the youth organizations with the specific target group (young people with special needs and people with disabilities). The methodology includes different methods and ways of working such as: campaigning, volunteering, working with local authorities and responsible institutions.
The program covered more than 400 representatives of youth organizations from 7 countries.
